Confidence, Care, and the Courage to Live Wealth Your Way:
Lessons from Urban Adams

What does it mean to live with Moxie? For Urban Adams, it means showing up with courage, emotional intelligence, and the kind of deep care that transforms lives—both financially and personally.

Urban Adams is more than a wealth advisor. He’s a storyteller, a devoted father of three daughters, a former softball coach, and now a published author of the book Wealth Your Way: Building Wealth and the Life You Want Through High Touch Planning. His philosophy? True wealth isn’t just numbers on a page. It’s about creating a life of freedom, connection, and purpose.

On the latest episode of Hello Moxie, Urban sat down with host Nicole to talk about money, memory-making, and the moxie it takes to live a life that’s rich in meaning.

“It’s About the Time Freedom to Live the Life You Want”

Urban’s new book Wealth Your Way blends high-touch financial guidance with powerful human stories, like the one about a couple who hesitated to book their dream vacation after retirement. Urban encouraged them to take the trip anyway, finding a tax-efficient way to fund it without derailing their long-term goals.

Less than a year later, one of them unexpectedly passed away.

“That memory,” Urban said, “is something the surviving spouse carries with them now. It’s not a consolation, but it’s a reminder—we’re planning for the future, yes, but we also need to live now.”

It’s a powerful lesson in balancing prudence with presence. “The wealth they’re creating,” he said, “is a vehicle to the time freedom to live the life that they want.”

Listening First, Advising Second

Urban credits much of his success—not just as an advisor but as a father and friend—to one simple, yet rare, skill: listening.

“There’s a reason why we have two ears and one mouth,” he laughed. “So that we listen more than we speak.”

Urban’s empathetic style is grounded in his INFJ personality and his embrace of stoic philosophy. But it’s also deeply practical. “Especially in client conversations,” he said, “if you just stop talking, people will tell you everything you need to know.”

This same philosophy has shaped the way he coached girls’ softball for over a decade. “Women athletes need to feel good about themselves to play well,” he explained. “If you have their heart, they’ll do anything for the team.”

From Girl Dad to Guide

Urban’s stories about his daughters are among the most moving parts of the episode. He describes each with a specific quality that speaks volumes about their character and his parenting: perseverance, resilience, and bravery.

His youngest daughter’s story—leaving an abusive relationship and returning home—illustrated the power of knowing you have a safe place to land. “I always told them,” he said, “you always have a place here. I don’t care if it’s Plan A or Plan B.”

When she told him that very assurance helped her make the decision to leave, Urban said, “I would do it the same way all over again.”

Wealth Advice Just for Women

Urban is passionate about helping women build financial confidence. “Be in control of your finances,” he urged. “You don’t need to depend on anyone else—not a partner, not an employer.”

He’s taught his daughters to start young: opening credit union accounts at 13, setting up Roth IRAs after their first jobs, and learning to use credit wisely. “I told them, ‘What I’m giving you isn’t money. It’s skills. That way you’ll never stay in a situation that’s not good for you.’”

It’s not just advice—it’s empowerment. And it’s foundational to Urban’s definition of moxie.

“Do It Anyway. That’s Moxie.”

When asked what Moxie means to him, Urban didn’t hesitate. “Confidence and savvy,” he said. “Even if I haven’t done it before—even if I’m not sure I’ll get it right—I’m going to do it anyway. That’s Moxie.”

His message to women navigating finances, family, or career shifts is the same: take the shot. Trust your inner voice. And know that you’re not alone.

Bonus Wisdom: Showing Up With Care

In exclusive bonus content for Hello Moxie members, Urban shared practical ways to express care: sending a song that reminds you of someone, texting a quick memory, or just checking in consistently.

“People feel seen when you do that,” he said. “It’s not about waiting to speak. It’s about listening—and letting them know they matter.”

Final Takeaway

Urban Adams reminds us that wealth is about how we use our resources—money, time, attention—to build lives filled with meaning, connection, and Moxie.
