Angela Goodman, Amelia Earhart, Building Wealth
and Redefining Success

Some entrepreneurs are born, not made—and Angela Goodman is one of them. As a restaurateur, financial coach, and serial business builder, Angela brings equal parts heart and hustle to everything she touches. In the latest episode of Hello Moxie, host Nicole Donnelly sat down with Angela for an honest, funny, and deeply inspiring conversation about business, money, freedom, and—of course—Moxie.

From selling expired candy at eight years old to helping women entrepreneurs transform their financial outlook, Angela’s story is a masterclass in fearless reinvention.

From Corporate Life to Famous Toastery

Angela spent 15 years in commercial HVAC—working with clients like hospitals and universities that run 24/7. The hours were long, and the demands were constant. Eventually, Angela made a bold leap: she left corporate life to run her own business, a Famous Toastery franchise in Ashburn, Virginia.

Everyone warned her about the risks. “They said I’d never get time off,” she laughed. “But I wasn’t getting time off already! So if I was going to work around the clock, I wanted it to be for something that mattered to me.”

She now leads a staff of over 30 and has earned national recognition as a top-performing franchisee. More importantly, she’s gained a sense of autonomy and impact that she never experienced in her previous career.

“Failure was not an option,” she said. “I knew I’d make it work. I just had to work hard.”

Healing Your Money Story

Angela’s financial wisdom is rooted in something deeper than spreadsheets and savings goals. It’s personal. Her earliest experience with money—selling candy from her mom’s Nabisco stash—came with a dose of guilt and shame after a classmate got caught chewing gum and outed her to her teacher.

“I didn’t realize until years later how much that moment shaped my beliefs,” she reflected. “I internalized the idea that it was bad to make money for myself.”

Today, that awareness is at the center of her coaching work. She helps entrepreneurs identify how childhood beliefs—often unexamined—show up in their pricing, their sense of self-worth, and their ability to build sustainable businesses.

“If you’re ashamed to take money for your work, it’s almost always rooted in something deeper,” she said. “Once you can name it, you can change it.”

Moxie Means Doing It Anyway

Angela embodies what Hello Moxie is all about: boldness, creativity, and the courage to do things your own way. When Nicole asked her to define Moxie, she didn’t hesitate.

“It’s a lack of fear. It’s doing what you want to do—whether or not people think you should.”

She credits trailblazing women like Amelia Earhart as early sources of inspiration. In fact, Angela once performed a monologue as Amelia for a high school project, donning a flight suit and channeling the famed aviator’s fierce independence.

“She was brave, and she didn’t fit the mold,” Angela said. “She didn’t do what women were ‘supposed’ to do at that time. And I’ve always felt a little like that too.”

Redefining Wealth—and Success

Angela is quick to point out that wealth isn’t just about income—it’s about freedom.

“Some of the freest people I know aren’t financially wealthy,” she said. “But they’re free. They’ve designed their lives around joy, fulfillment, and purpose.”

It’s a mindset shift she encourages in her clients too. Rather than obsess over revenue, Angela urges business owners to focus on value creation. “Stop asking how you’ll make money,” she says. “Start asking how you can solve a problem.”

From there, everything else flows.

Supporting Women Through Smart Strategy

Angela works primarily with women entrepreneurs—many of whom are solopreneurs trying to wear all the hats. Her goal? Help them work smarter, not harder.

Whether it’s refining their pricing, creating meaningful offers, or understanding the real cost of doing business, she helps her clients reclaim their financial power through clarity and strategy.

Final Words of Wisdom

When asked for her closing advice to women who want to build wealth and financial security, Angela keeps it simple—and wise.

“Start small,” she says. “Prioritize what really matters. Save consistently. And focus on things that appreciate in value—like real estate or yourself—not things that lose value the minute you buy them.”

Her biggest lesson? Build a life you don’t need a vacation from.

Wealth isn’t about having more. It’s about having enough—and knowing what ‘enough’ means for you.”
